AfterLidWhat does AfterLid do?
It gives you app controls for your computer’s power behavior. The job itself stays in the application you started: your browser downloads the file, your editor renders the video, and your development tools run the build.
AfterLid does not move those jobs to a cloud server. It is not a remote desktop viewer, a file transfer service or an AI agent that performs work for you.
Which devices can I use?
- Mac: get the desktop app through the setup page.
- Windows: check the public beta page for current release details and installation caveats.
- iPhone and Android: use the phone companion page for the current links.
The phone app needs a linked computer to show that computer’s status. Installing the phone app alone does not keep a computer awake. Read-only mobile status is available on Free; remote mode control requires Pro. Check the current plan details on the homepage before choosing a plan.
What do the Mac modes mean?
Sleepy follows normal Mac sleep behavior. Awake keeps the Mac and its display awake with the lid open. Awake does not automatically turn the display off, and closing the lid still normally puts the Mac to sleep.
Lid-closed operation is a separate mode. Availability and behavior depend on the installed version, hardware, permissions and operating system. Do not assume the Mac and Windows implementations behave identically. Our practical guides use lid-open operation as their starting point.
Do I need AfterLid instead of caffeinate?
Not necessarily. For a one-off Mac download or render, the built-in caffeinate command may be enough. AfterLid is worth considering if you prefer app controls or want the linked-phone features. Neither option makes a slow download faster.

What can still interrupt my work?
Application crashes, network failures, storage problems and system interruptions can still stop a task. Safety limits may end an awake session. AfterLid does not guarantee uninterrupted completion or compatibility with every setup.
